The Local History and Genealogy Librarian is responsible to the Biloxi Head Librarian for the administration of the Local History Collection, assisting the public with historical and genealogical research, and managing department staff.

Primary Duties:

  • Assisting patrons with online and in-house historical and genealogical research
  • Materials selection
  • Developing and maintaining special collections
  • Digitizing materials
  • Creating displays and programming
  • Assisting in obtaining and administering grant funding
  • Tracking and reporting usage of collection
  • Increasing visibility of HCLS and the department by speaking and writing about collections when opportunities arise

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent library experience, training or background in genealogical research, proficient with general office computer applications, ability to work with the public and outside groups. See job description for full details.

Hours: 40 hours per week, including some nights and Saturdays.
Salary: $17.00 per hour.

Circulation Clerk

Under the general supervision of the Branch Manager, checks library materials in and out, shelves books, answers phones, and assists library users in locating materials and with computers.

Primary Duties:

  • Checking library materials in and out
  • Shelving library materials
  • Helping library users locate materials
  • Assisting library users with computers

Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public. Physical ability to bend, lift, reach, and carry up to 25lbs. Basic computer and internet skills. See job description for full details.

Hours: 17 hours per week, including some nights and Saturdays.
Salary: $10.00 per hour.


Position: Mobile Outreach Librarian
Location: Administrative Offices, 12135 Old Hwy 49, Gulfport, MS 39503

The Mobile Outreach Librarian is responsible to the Director for planning and implementing the Mobile Outreach project, coordinating with CTA for this project, working with Youth and Services Librarians, and for promoting the services in the community.

Primary Duties:

  • Works with Administration, Youth Services, and Services Librarians to identify target groups for digital outreach  
  • Works with Administration, Youth Services, and Services Librarians to develop, publicize, and implement outreach activities for target groups, depending on identified needs
  • Works with CTA staff to implement, publicize, and manage in-vehicle hotspot program
  • Develops digital collection housed at CTA transit hub
  • Tracks and reports usage statistics from programming, materials, and Wi-Fi use
  • Works with Administration to evaluate and adjust program as needed, based on continual data collection and analysis
  • Works with Administration to deploy programming and hotspots as needed in crisis or disaster situation
  • Markets outreach and hotspot program in the community
  • Drives mobile outreach vehicle and apprises Administration of any maintenance needs
  • Other duties as needed or required by Director

Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. familiarity with computer applications and technology essential. Must have good customer service skills. Excellent driving record and valid MS license required.

Hours: Up to 40 hours, including some nights and Saturdays.
Salary: $12.00 – 14.43 per hour.
