Youth Services Coordinator

Position Available: Open November 18, 2024, until filled
The Youth Services Coordinator is responsible to the Director for supervising, organizing and promoting youth services, programming, and outreach through the system.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Manages the operations of all Youth Services system-wide in consultation with Head Librarians, Branch Managers, Youth Services staff, and the Director, including year-round storytimes, Summer Reading, as well as workshops and programming for parents and caregivers
- Coordinates, promotes, and assists with in-house programming and outreach development and implementation in consultation other staff
- Serves as backup for branch programming and assists with Mobile Outreach as needed
- Evaluates programming and outreach implementation to ensure consistency of service standards
- Develops and maintains relationships with other community organizations, such as museums and schools
- Seeks out, applies for, and manages relevant grant opportunities
- Assists in hiring, training, and continuing development of Youth Services personnel
- Assists with material selection, collection development, and weeding, as needed
- Keeps records and creates reports on Youth Services activities as required by the Director
- Conducts meetings and development activities with Youth Services staff on a regular basis
- Assists in advocacy to community leaders, outside organizations, and funders
- Stays current on Youth Services principles and practices, literature, and materials
- Serves as liaison with the Mississippi Library Commission on Youth Service resources
- Attends professional meetings and other training opportunities to keep abreast of library trends
- Other duties as needed or required by Director
Requirements:
- ALA Acredited MLIS Degree with training in Youth Services or Bachelor’s degree in related area or Two years’ college in a related field plus at least three years’ experience in a youth-related field
- Minimum two years’ work in youth-related field
- Thorough knowledge of literature for youth
- Thorough knowledge of public library philosophy
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Proficient with applications necessary to create marketing and promotional materials Strong organizational skills; strong supervisory skills
Hours: 40 hours per week, including some nights and Saturdays.
Salary: $17.07 per hour.
Branch Manager – Biloxi Public Library

The Branch Manager is responsible to the Assistant Director for the administration of the branch library within the system.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Selects, supervises, trains, and evaluates (annually) branch staff in compliance with System personnel policies
- Ensures excellent service to patrons and maintains an atmosphere conducive to serving patron needs
- Responsible for programming to enhance library services
- Responsible for maintenance of library building and grounds
- Assists in marketing library services to patrons and the community via media and outreach
- Responsible for collection development at branch in accordance with HCLS policy
- Maintains supplies needed for operation of branch
- Keeps Head Librarian informed of plans and needs of branch and coordinates branch services
- Prepares and submits petty cash report to HQ
- Prepares and submits monthly service statistics
- Attends professional meetings and other training opportunities to keep abreast of library trends
- Participates in desk schedule as needed to ensure that library service needs are met
- Other duties as needed or required by Assistant Director
Requirements:
- ALA-accredited MLIS Degree or Bachelor’s degree with appropriate experience
- Two years of professional library experience
- Knowledge of library technology
- Thorough knowledge of public library philosophy
- Strong Commitment to public service
- Supervisory skills

Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to provide excellent service to patrons by maintaining a tactful and courteous demeanor. Basic computer skills. Physical ability to bend, lift, reach, and carry up to 25 lbs.
Hours: 17 hours per week, including some nights and Saturdays.
Salary: $11.00 per hour.
