Position: Head Librarian – Biloxi

 

Available: April 1st until filled

 

The Harrison County Library System is looking for a skilled leader to become the next Head Librarian for Biloxi, MS. The primary duties of this job are supervising library operations in our four Biloxi branches, as well as our Local History department, housed in the Biloxi location, and acting as liaison with the City of Biloxi. Each of our four head librarians serve on the system leadership team and advise the director on policies, planning, and library services.

 

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Selects, supervises, trains, and evaluates (annually) staff in compliance with System personnel policies
  • Attends local funder meetings and acts as liaison to local funding entity
  • Assists Director in preparing annual budget and informs Director of funding needs
  • Responsible for selection of library materials according to System collection development policy
  • Directs local library expenditures under adopted annual budget
  • Originates and submits purchase orders for equipment and supplies to the Director
  • Maintains a current inventory of equipment
  • Responsible for maintenance, repair, and security of library building and for maintenance of grounds
  • Accountable for local petty cash
  • Reports accurate monthly service statistics to Headquarters
  • Utilizes various media to publicize library programs and services
  • Coordinates with Director and colleagues on system-wide concerns and planning
  • Works with Friends of the Library organization and other civic groups for improved library services
  • Oversees the receipt, acknowledgement and disposition of gifts made to the local library and ensures compliance with System policies
  • Supervises us of meeting room and display cases in compliance with System policies
  • Act as back-up to staff for meeting library service needs and may need to work desk and weekend shifts
  • Other duties as needed or required by Director

 

Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited MLIS Degree
  • Two years professional library experience
  • Knowledge of library technology
  • Thorough knowledge of public library philosophy
  • Strong Commitment to public service
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent supervisory skills

 

This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $48,000-$53,000, depending on qualifications and experience.

Library Clerk – Part Time

Biloxi Library

Library Clerk

 

Under the general supervision of the Head of Circulation, checks library materials in and out, shelves books, answers phones, and assists library users in locating materials and with computers.

 

Primary Duties: 

  • Greeting public and providing excellent customer service
  • Processing library card applications and patron record updates
  • Assisting patrons with computers
  • Assisting patrons with reference questions

 

Requirements:  High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to provide excellent service to patrons by maintaining a tactful and courteous demeanor. Basic computer skills.  Physical ability to bend, lift, reach, and carry up to 25 lbs.

 

Hours:  17 hours per week, including some nights and Saturdays.   

 

Salary:  $11.00 per hour.

The Library Office Assistant is responsible to the Director for managing ILL and for performing a variety of clerical duties. This position requires flexibility, with the ability to handle detailed tasks, such as preparing deposits and reviewing cash reports, as well as more creative duties, such as designing flyers and posters. Patience and excellent phone skills are essential. The person in this position must be bondable and able to handle confidential information with discretion.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

 

  • Processing and routing all ILL requests from patrons and receiving and processing requests from other libraries
  • Accounting for cash receipts from branches and associated record keeping
  • Preparing deposits of cash receipts and other income
  • Making deposits
  • Maintaining HQ petty cash account
  • Assisting with filing
  • Assisting with administrative correspondence
  • Assisting the Director with social media and website posting and newsletter creation
  • Assisting with management of statistical data
  • Assisting with fixed asset list management
  • Assisting with preparation and mailing of checks for bill payment
  • Assisting with processing employment documents
  • Maintaining supplies for administration
  • Welcoming visitors to HQ
  • Assisting with board meeting preparation and with minute-taking as needed
  • Answering phone and responding to patron needs or routes calls as needed
  • Providing notary public services for HQ and the public
  • Learning ILS system and being able to serve as back-up if needed
  • Other duties as needed

 

Qualifications:

 

College degree or two years of college preferred; previous office experience, preferably in a public service environment, excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Products, particularly Excel and Google products, particularly Sheets); knowledge of accounting fundamentals; excellent communication and organization skills; Bondable

 

Salary: $27,996.80
